A BUNGALOW was badly damaged in a suspected arson attack in Minehead.

Firefighters were called to Hawthorn Road at around 5am this morning (February 4) to reports of a fire, and there were concerns that people were inside.

Engines from Minehead, Porlock and a supporting officer attended the scene.

The property's living room was 75 per cent fire damaged and the property was heat and smoke damaged as a result of the fire.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival crews passed an informative of smoke and flames issuing and that the bungalow was well alight.

"They got to work with two breathing apparatus and one attack jet.

"They used six breathing apparatus sets, two hose reels, two safety jets, two thermal imaging cameras and one positive pressure ventilation fan to safely extinguish the well established fire."

After performing a thorough search of the premises crews were able to confirm that all persons and animals had been accounted for.

A spokesman for the fire service confirmed the cause of the fire was deliberate.
