PLANS to bring the 33-metre-high Observation Wheel to Minehead’s Seafront have been put on hold.

Minehead Events Group confirmed this week that ‘due to circumstances beyond its control’ it would be unable to bring the eye-catching attraction back to the seafront this Easter.

However a spokesman for the Minehead Events Group has confirmed that a new plan is in place to have the large Ferris Wheel along Warren Road from May 25 to June 18 covering school half term and holidays.

A Minehead Events Group spokesman said: “Assembly will take place between May 22-24 and dismantling between June 19-21. We hope this will be a successful attraction for Minehead and help to create a vibrant and enjoyable sea front over the half term period.”

The wheel caused quite a stir when it was first introduced for an eight-week run in July 2016.

While it proved popular with many tourists and visitors, residents of the seafront flats were left furious at the lack of consultation carried out before the wheel was put up.

Many of the residents who live in flats which would be overlooked the the 100ft-high attraction were not told it would be put in place until construction got underway.
