THIS dramatic footage shows huge cracks that have appeared in the cliffs outside the Blue Anchor Hotel.

The hotel, which has been in a somewhat precarious position for some time, is in danger of ending up in the sea if nothing is done.

Hotel owner Cara Strom said she initially spotted a hairline fracture in the ground outside the hotel on Wednesday, and then overnight it opened up into the largely visible cracks shown in the video.

"It is very worrying for me, my family and the community, "Ms Strom said.

"We have closed the hotel for bookings as the health and safety of the guests is paramount.

" It is extremely frustrating because we were fully booked this weekend.

"The hotel bar will remain open as I can safely evacuate those guests and monitor the tide but I cannot do that overnight."

Ms Strom was clear there was no immediate danger for guests.

The Environment Agency have been out on the site today, and have encouraged Ms Strom to apply for funding to provide some protection for the hotel.

The Blue Anchor ‘Pub and Accommodation’ this week has suffered a major land slip that means that time could be called for the popular and well-known premises.

In December 2014 West Somerset Council voted to stop any ‘all work associated with a bid the Environment Agency’ and in a scheme that could have potentially saved the popular cliff top pub. It is though now at risk. Although the building is not in immediate danger owner and operator Cara Strom is now worried about how long she has not only for her business, livelihood and her team’s jobs, but also her family home.

Ms Strom said: “We have been working hard on a solution that was not only feasible but that could be funded.

"Unfortunately time may simply be against us. We even informed West Somerset Council at a recent area panel that the winter had not been kind to the cliff and that things were accelerating.

"Although still stable once the pub does fall into the sea the road will be next, to me it seems a false economy not to prevent any further erosion now. To me the ‘do nothing option’ is simply not an option. The Environment Agency have already been out and visited the site.”
