A WEST Somerset girl made her own show-stopping dress to celebrate her Year 11 prom.

Holly Belluomo, who lives near Dulverton, was inspired to make the dress after watching a music video by her favourite band, My Chemical Romance.

The 16-year-old West Somerset Community College student said: “It's a very special dress, very dramatic, and I had to wait for the right occasion.

“I got the inspiration for the dress five years ago from the band's music video, Helena.

“The dress is made of scarlet and black polyester. I chose the fabric because it's very effective at catching the light and it cost just over £70 to make.”

After graduating from West Somerset Community College, Holly plans on going to Bridgwater College where she will study for a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design.

She added: “I like to design dresses in an alternative style and I'm looking in to starting a business with clothes in my own style.

“I've made about ten dresses with designs from different periods of the Gothic era.”

Holly also works part time at a fabric store. She added: “Sometimes I find that I have spent more than half my paycheque before I've even left work.”
