SEVERAL homes were evacuated following the discovery of an unexploded Second World War grenade in Williton on Friday (July 20).

The grenade was discovered at a property in Larviscombe Close at 8.30am and a bomb disposal team was dispatched to the scene.

Residents living within a 60m radius of the site were ordered to evacuate their homes while the device was examined but it was declared safe within three hours and the cordon was lifted at 12noon.

This was not really a bomb scare, and the 60m should have been written as meters so not to confuse the public who see 60m as 60 miles. A hand grenade is not a bomb it is an handheld explosive device.

Chances of a world war 2 grenade being live in England were slim, they were all training grenades.

Especially around military bases, the live ones were not used as part of a training exercise.

Although it is always wise to call 999 in this circumstance but the only ones you have to worry about are the large uxb's that came from planes.
