A VERY well attended meeting of Taunton and District Gardeners Association, including non-members, eagerly awaited a talk entitled All Gardens Great and Small, given by Rebecca Pow, noted HTV/Ch4 programme maker and presenter. They were not disappointed.
The speaker began by outlining the very complex arrangements which preceded any programme series. Firstly, the idea had to be sold' to the network then followed detailed discussions on venues, costings, meetings with garden owners. Techanical arrangements, photographers and cameramen, scripts formulated etc., editorial constraints necessitate only a brief mention of these in this report.
Members were informed that the object of the series was to present all gardens, whether great or small in a manner which illustrated their ability to look beautiful whatever the season.
Throughout the talk the speaker's passion for and love of, not only the gardens which were featured in the accompanying slides, but of gardens in general, her own included, shone through.
This was a truly absorbing, informative and entrancing evening, which fully matched expectations, for which Mrs Neena Carter gave the vote of thanks.
Competition results: Luckett A (table arrangement): 1 Mrs Blackmore. Caldicott (foliage plant): 1 Mrs Carter, 2 Mrs Gould.
