A CRASH on the M5 Somerset Southbound that caused severe delays between Wellington and Tiverton this morning has been cleared.

Two lanes were closed between Junction 26, A38 Wellington and Junction 27, A361 Tiverton causing queueing traffic.

Firefighters from Taunton and Wellington were joined by police and an ambulance at the scene where a car had landed on its roof.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival crews confirmed that there was one vehicle on its roof straddling lanes one and two of the motorway. 

"No persons were trapped, although three were walking wounded. An environment pack was used to make the scene safe."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Traffic used the far lane to pass the accident."

The crash happened around 11.50am.
