A WEST Somerset community group is promoting its own way of reducing plastic bag usage - and its ideas are heading for Parliament!

The Corner Link Craft Club, based at Corner Link Baptist community building in Williton, uses old material from things like duvet covers and curtains to create new bags, known as Morsbags.

Morsbags, whose slogan is 'sociable, guerrilla bagging', is a national organisation aimed at recycling materials and reducing plastic bag use.

The 10-strong group in Williton have sent some of their creations to Westminster via West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger, where they will be showcased as part of the Love London green festival, which runs until June 21.

The bags will be given free to MPs by Mr Liddell-Grainger to promote the use of environmentally friendly bags. MPs will also be encouraged to try their had at making a Morsbag.

Morsbags will also be given away this weekend as part of the Williton Open Gardens event.

To join the group, or to donate materials, contact one of the co-ordinators, Shirley Allnutt on 01984 634776 or drop into Corner Link on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
