READERS of the County Gazette have joined TWO of the County Gazette’s campaigns in one go!

The Somerset County Quilters, based in Taunton, have been hard at work boosting our jute bags campaign while raising money for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment appeal at the same time.

Committee member Lin Fry said: “After reading your bag revolution we decided to make fabric bags to sell - and give all the proceeds to SURE - a charity many of us are close to.”

On Saturday, at Corfe Village Hall, Lin organised a "stitch a bag day" where group members and friends came and stitched the bags up.

Lin added: “Over 100 bags has been made, all with donated fabrics and will be sold at local craft fairs during the next few months.

“Bags - like the ladies - are all shapes and sizes and it depended on the size of fabric piece! The bags are for all – children, ladies, men, young mums and dads - so if you see fabric bags for sale, please help us help SURE.

Meanwhile, 50 more people have won a stylish Somerset Green Family jute bag – just for promising to cut their plastic bag usage by at least 25%.

The bags carry the County Gazette logo and the EcoHydro design of our partner, the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office.
