THE 20th annual Moonraker walk was held on Saturday and is believed to have raised over £10,000 for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE).

There was a massive 430 walkers in 72 teams taking part in the walk, which is organised by the Taunton Vale Rotary Club, at its new venue of Wimbleball Lake.

There were three walk distances, six miles, 13 miles and 15 miles and the first groups of walkers setting off around 5pm.

The weather was not too kind to the teams, with a hint of rain to begin with, but the moon cam out around midnight to help the teams back - the last of them finishing around 3.30am.

Points were awarded for completing each section of the route within a set time and for correctly answering a set of clues.

The overall wimmers were the Time Team, who completed the 15-mile course.

The winners of the 13-mile, one loop course was the Taunton Hash A team and the one loop winners were the Rockin Robins.

Robert Clasby, coordinator of Moonraker 2006, said: "We set the walkers a challenging route and they told us they found the whole night-time event very enjoyable supporting such a good charitable cause.

"We want to thank all the walkers for their support on the night and their superb contribution to the SURE appeal.

"We must also thank all the people living in the area for their help, particularly the farmers and local residents around the lake.

"Everyone's contribution has made all our efforts worthwhile, and we look forward to writing a big cheque to SURE once all the sponsorship money has been collected."
