SEVERAL donations have been sent in for the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) campaign this week.

The Somerset Bridge Association donated £400, Hazel Western donated £25 and Mrs Southcott donated £15.

That brings the total raised since the County Gazette joined forces with SURE last May to £61,710.

This money has been raised through a range of events, such as raffles, quizzes and charity walks.

A prize bingo is being held at Creech St Michael village hall on Saturday in aid of SURE.

Eyes down is at 7.30pm.

SURE has been fundraising since late 2000 to provide equipment for a new cancer centre, which is due to be built at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital this year.

Earlier this year the group reached the £1/2million mark.

They had originally been hoping to raise £600,000, which would provide a scanner/ simulator to pinpoint the exact size and location of a tumour and equipment for a mask-making room, but that figure has risen to £750,000 to cover the improvements in the quality of equipment available, as well as the rising cost of the equipment.
