THOSANDS of pounds worth of donations have been sent in to the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) campaign this week.

The biggest donation came from the Sorotimist Swimathon that was held in Taunton earlier this year.

They raised a massive £4,458 for the charity.

Other donations came from Mr and Mrs Mann, who donated £100, Mrs Sorby and the Melody Makers, who also gave £100 and Zac and friends from Heathfield Community School who raised £77.50 by taking part in a sponsored leg wax.

That means £4,735.50 was donated this week bringing the grand total raised since the County Gazette joined forces with SURE to £66,952.

The SURE fundraisers are aiming to raise £750,000 to provide equipment for a new cancer centre being built in Taunton.

They have so far collected over £1/2million towards providing a scanner/ simulator to pinpoint the exact size and location of a tumour and equipment for a mask-making room.

SURE has also been presented with a cheque for £1,000 from the Freemasons of Vivary Lodge.

The cheque was presented to Charles Barker, representing SURE, by the Master of Vivary Lodge Tony Criddle.

The money will be added to the SURE total next week.
