DONATIONS totalling nearly £250 have arrived this week for the County Gazette-backed SURE campaign.
Volunteers from SURE, the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment, are fundraising feverishly to equip the new cancer unit due to be completed next spring at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
Donations have arrived this week from Mrs G.B Berkeley, who raised £170 by asking for donations instead of presents at her 65th birthday, and Kate Allen, of Somerset County Council's human resources department, who donated £73.
The accumulative total from County Gazette readers is now £92,632.
Two SURE fundraisers are being held on Saturday. Monkton Heathfield village hall is hosting a charity social evening, featuring Ray Hobbs, from 7.30-11.30pm. Tickets are £6 and you should bring your own drink.
The Eagle Tavern, in South Street, Taunton, is hosting a 24-hour dance marathon, beginning at 8am. All are welcome to join in.
And next Saturday, March 22, Norton Fitzwarren village hall will host a cheese, wine and jazz evening, with The Swing Jazz Band, from 7.30-11pm. For tickets, phone 01823-253034.
