THE County Gazette's campaign to help the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment raise its final £200,000 towards providing cancer treatment equipment in Taunton is now well in to its second month and things are going exceedingly well.

So far a staggering £5,870 has come in through a wide range of fund raising events and with the success of the County Gazette team in the 50/50 cycle ride on Sunday, many more hundreds of pounds will soon be rolling in.

However, with £200,000 as a target there is still a long way to go and so any donation, however small, is appreciated.

So if you are planning a fundraising event for SURE, why not let the County Gazette know.

That way it can be publicised and hopefully raise even more money.

SURE is planning to raise around £600,000 to provide cancer treatment equipment for a new cancer unit due to be built at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.

The equipment will mean cancer patients will no longer have to travel all the way to Bristol every time they need treatment.

Work is due to begin on the centre later this summer with completion expected by the end of next year.

SURE want to raise the £600,000 by then so the equipment will be available to go in to the centre for its opening.

So if you are holding a fundraising event for SURE contact the Somerset County Gazette 01823-365107.
