THE main aim of the SURE campaign is to provide equipment to treat cancer patients in Taunton instead of them having to make the long trip to Bristol on a regular basis.

Cancer patient and SURE treasurer Eric Saffin (RIGHT) knows exactly what people have to endure to get their treatment as it is the same trip he has made many times.

He said: "For many it's not just a quick trip to Bristol - it's hours out of a day.

"I remember one trip, which was typical of what I went through, started at about 10.45am when the car picked me up.

"We then went to Wellington to collect another patient, then over the hills to Nether Stowey to get a third patient and then to Glastonbury for the last person.

"We finally arrived in Bristol at about 1.30pm in time for my appointment at 2pm.

"My appointment was over pretty quickly, but I then had to wait for all the rest to finish.

"In the end I didn't get home until gone 7pm, which is an awfully long time, especially when you aren't very well.

"This is why it's so vital that we get this centre in Taunton. The whole community is supporting it."
