THE signing off of documents that will allow work to start on a new cancer centre at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital has again been delayed.

The documents were supposed to be signed at the end of last month, but some of the details were not approved by the bank.

Then the hospital said the deal would be completed by the end of last week, but again this has not happened.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "We were hoping to sign last Friday but an issue came up that needs to be clarified with one of the private sector partners.

"This is not a substantive issue and certainly not a deal breaker, but would need to be agreed before final signing.

"We are hoping to agree a signing day later this week or early next."

Meanwhile the County Gazette backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) campaign is going well.

SURE has so far raised over £400,000 and the County Gazette is helping with the final push towards £600,000.

The funds are quickly approaching the £450,000 with a massive £14,545 raised since the County Gazette started it campaign on May 4.

Donations of £838 were sent in over the last week, including £470 from the Questing Quilters and £328 from Martin Lock for his efforts in the Taunton Half Marathon.

The money will by equipment for the new cancer centre so patients do not have to travel all the way to Bristol for treatment.
