A WELLINGTON singer has hit all the right notes to become the oldest member of a barbershop choir in Britain.
Glyn Evans, 92, who sings with Taunton Barbershop Harmony Club, The Rivertones, was confirmed as the oldest singer by specialist barbershop publication Harmony Express.
Glyn was born in Pontypridd in 1915 and joined the Tank Regiment in 1941 where he saw action in Sicily, Italy, Egypt, Palestine and Greece.
After taking emergency training as a teacher he moved to Somerset in the late 1940s and taught for many years at Beech Grove Primary School in Wellington before retiring.
Glyn has been singing all his life and played leading roles in the Wellington Operatic Society, most notably Dick Deadeye in HMS Pinafore. He was a founder member of Taunton Barbershop Harmony Club in 1983 and is looking forward to the group's Silver Jubilee celebrations next year. He is a life president of The Rivertones and still attends all practices and performs in public with the group.
