AROUND 150 from Taunton’s Wilton Scout Troop – including parents, leaders and former members – enjoyed a weekend camp at Huish Woods to mark the group’s centenary.
Activities included making old-style staves in a reproduction camp, while among the modern fun was climbing, caving, shooting, archery and a water slide, and the beacon was lit.
Group Scout leader Steve Summerill said: “It was fantastic to see so many past and present members - here’s looking forward to the next 100 years.”
Cub Ben Shattock said: “It was a brilliant camp. There was so much to do.”
The Scouts reproduced a photo of Scouts from 100 years ago posing with their bicycle stretchers.
During a flag service on Sunday, Mr Summerill reminded the group of some key events of the past 100 years.
Formed in 1909, Wilton is the oldest surviving Scout Group in Taunton - though they were formed only slightly before Trull Scouts.
The group has over 100 members aged six to 14, with an active and varied programme.
New members are welcome, and the group is appealing for more leaders to cope with the swelling ranks.
