FOR almost a century, Berry’s Coaches has been in action working across the West Country, providing transport, exciting day trips, and connecting the region to London.

Whether it’s a school trip, a business meeting, or a family adventure, the distinct white coaches with red and orange writing are bound to bring a tinge of excitement to any passenger.

The company rose from the ashes of the First World War when it was founded by Clifford Berry in 1920.

It started as a truck and haulage business based in Bradford-on-Tone.

It then evolved into the company it is today with more than 50 coaches that are widely recognised across the South West.

But it also provides exciting opportunities for those wanting to be part of one of Somerset’s most loved companies.

Through its Driver Training Academy, anyone who wants to be part of the team can join up with the help and support of head of training, Dave Hiett.

Mr Hiett has been working in the industry of training and transport for 40 years and is happy to pass on his expertise to the trainees.

Potential drivers must have passed the two modules of training before they join the academy.

But if not, help and support is there to guide them to the right places.

Once those tests are complete, drivers can move on to the third module within the academy.

Mr Hiett said: “Typically, the practical driving module training takes between 20 and 25 hours to complete.

“However, we recognise that people learn new skills at different rates.

“The standard requires to pass the PCV driving test is high. After all, they will be carrying passengers who will be relying on you to deliver them safely to their destinations.

“Also, the vehicles they will be licensed to drive require extensive knowledge, skill and responsibility to be driven safely.”

So for those looking for the right road to a new career, Berry’s could be the booking you need.
