ELMORE have decided to leave the Toolstation Western league at the end of the season.

The club, based in Heathcoat Way, Tiverton, are switching to the Carlsberg South-West Peninsula league after 34 years.

Football Vice Chairman Neville Crocker said: “It’s very much a geographical thing.

“There won’t be a great deal in the mileage but it will be more convenient.

“A lot of the teams we play now are Bristol based. Joining the Peninsula league means we’ll be playing a lot more derbies against teams like Cullompton, Witheridge and Bovey Tracey.”

Manager Pete Buckingham also feels that facilities in the Peninsula league are generally better.

Both leagues are on Step 6 of the non-league ladder so the standard of football played by Elmore will be the same.

Elmore are back in action tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit Westbury United (3pm).

In the same division Wellington are looking to get their league season back on course when they visit Devizes Town (3pm).

Wellington have now seen four consecutive matches postponed because of waterlogged pitches. The latest fixture to fall foul of the weather was the New Year’s Day fixture at Sherborne.

And it means manager Jamie Ward’s charges have not played since their impressive 3-0 victory at Warminster Town on December 15.

Ward said: “Obviously it’s been very frustrating because we had hit a bit of form and instead of being able to carry that on we’ve got to find it again.

“The weather has also meant we havn’t been able to train outdoors but we’ll have a training session this week and make sure we blow the cobwebs away.

“I suppose the only consolation is that everybody else is in the same boat.”

In the Toolstation premier Willand Rovers visit Odd Down of Bath at 3pm, when they will be looking to pick up points to move away from the relegation zone.

Tiverton Town, who drew 0-0 at Taunton Town in front of a crowd of 390 on New Year’s Day, are set to entertain Bishops Cleeve at 3pm.

The Yellows are lying fourth in the Evo-Stik league after a fine first half to the season which has seen them suffer just four defeats in 21 matches.

In the premier division of the Peninsular league Cullompton Rangers entertain Penzance (3pm) while Witheridge are without a fixture.
