TAUNTON’S Premier side Vivary took on local rivals Trident from the Galmington club for what was always going to be an exciting match.

Inspirational play by GK Hannah Robins gave Vivary the strength and confidence to beat Trident 48-41.

Vivary led from the start and were 24-21 up at half time. They kept calm, played good netball and held on to their lead.

It was team work and team spirit that enabled Vivary this valuable win. Loxley King was nominated Player of the Match for Trident.

n GALMINGTON’s Newbarn faced the toughest possible task in Somerset League Division 3 after the Christmas break when they took on runaway leaders Monmouth who had won all eleven of their previous fixtures.

Unsurprisingly it was the experienced Monmouth who started the stronger, opening up an 11-3 first quarter lead.

Newbarn were far from overawed and fared better in the next period but still trailed 23-11 at half-time.

What the Newbarn youngsters lacked in height and strength they more than made up for with speed and agility as they took control in the third quarter.

Sophie Keitch was excellent at goal attack whilst Jaz Chester and Jacqui Manning combined brilliantly in defence to restrict the Monmouth attack and Newbarn ended the quarter just 27-21 behind.

Newbarn continued to reduce the deficit to close the gap to just two goals before Monmouth’s experience told and the league leaders pulled away to record a somewhat flattering 39-29 win.

Other Somerset League results: Division One: Dukes 35, Claremont 31; Player of the match Michelle Ley. Parkfield 41 Tone 47; Player of the match Kerry Quirk Division Two: Queensway 25, Quantock 43.
