HOCKEY: Huish qualify for national championships
RICHARD Huish men’s 1st XI have qualified for the British Colleges Sport National Championships. This year will be the 35th time it’s been held, and there are 51 events from 14 different sports across the weekend of the March 22-24 at the University of Bath. Huish haven’t lost a game from ten outings this season.
The squad includes two British Colleges Players in Josh Clarke and Max Ansell. Huish are representing the South-West region, and have achieved a medal at nine of the last ten championships.
They will be playing seven other regions including the East, South East, West Midlands, East Midlands, North West, Wales, Yorkshire and Hampshire. London and/or Scotland may also enter a side this year.
Four Huish students have also gained selection to the men’s and women’s British Colleges National squads – the highest accolade in college hockey. Maisie Robertson, Josh Clarke, Max Ansell and Bella Slawin all made it through three demanding rounds of trials to win the honour. Maisie, Bella and Josh all play their club hockey at Taunton Vale Hockey Club, with Max playing his at ISCA.
Clare Hayes added: “All the players have worked incredibly hard at their hockey and have been justly rewarded.”
