HORSE RACING: Landlord's Day at Taunton next Monday
Taunton Racecourse hosts its ever popular Landlords Day on Monday (March 11) – it’s the day before the start of the Cheltenham Festival, enabling racegoers to make it a full week of racing.
The first of the seven-race card, with a very generous £44,000 on offer in prizes, goes to post at 2.20pm so another exciting afternoon of National Hunt action looks to be assured for local punters.
The feature race on the card is the Bathwick Tyres Veterans’ Handicap Steeple Chase at 3.40pm, a Class 2 event over three miles with a massive prizepot of £20,000.
The final race of the day at 5.20pm, a Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over two miles, will be named after the Somerset hostelry which brings along the most racegoers to the course – a prize which is always keenly contested and which was won last year by the Barley Mow at Rockwell Green.
Tickets for racing at Taunton can be purchased at discounted prices if bought on-line at least 48 hours in advance from the website at www.tauntonracecourse.
co.uk A courtesy coach service departs from Taunton Railway Station an hour before the first race, picking up at the Bus Station near the town centre shortly afterwards and departing from the racecourse 30 minutes following the final event.
Taunton races will be back again on Monday, March 25, when the first race is due off at 2.20pm, then on Thursday April 4, starting at 2.10pm when an amazing £100,000 will be on offer in prizes.
