A LADIES bowmaker competition at Taunton and Pickeridge on Tuesday turned out to be the closest event of the year so far.

The top three teams all recorded 48 points, with the trio of Janet Kingston, Jill Paul and Heather Crump who took first spot.

In the runners-up position were Pat Follett, Judy Powell and Cathy Crosby, while Katy Davies, Heather Fletcher and Carolyn Stait were third.

Wednesday's Stableford was a much more one-sided event. Scratch golfer Jonathan Taubert was the only player to offer any real challenge to Steve Olive, but even his 37 points was only good enough for second place.

Third place went to David Potter with his 35 point total nudging Roy Mitchell out of the prize money.
