RUGBY: Titans tackle London Irish Wild Geese
7:00am Saturday 14th December 2013 in Sport
TAUNTON Titans will be aiming to reach the top three in National Two South today when they travel to league strugglers London Irish Wild Geese (2pm).
If they can defeat their hosts this Saturday they’ll potentially leap into third place in the table, the highest spot in the league system a Taunton team has ever achieved.
The Wild Geese are the amateur arm of Aviva Premiership club London Irish, and have risen rapidly through the league system in recent seasons, although they are finding it tough currently and sit just one spot from the foot of the National Two table.
Titans operations director David Webber said this week: “While it might tempting to think otherwise, the gap between us in the table really doesn’t mean much, it’s an incredibly competitive standard of rugby.
“The Wild Geese ran league leaders Hartpury College very close last Saturday, and can be a tricky prospect at their home ground, so there’s no room for complacency.
“The coaches have been very clear about expectations and consistency of performances, so the boys will need to ensure they remain focused and are accurate with ball in hand on the day.
“It would be fantastic to get our fourth win on the bounce, we have another tough away match at Exmouth in a week’s time so a continuation of our winning form would be just what we need before the Christmas break.”
