THE spirit of friendship in the rugby community will come to the fore tomorrow when Wellington members walk to Wiveliscombe ahead of the traditional Christmas clash between the two sides.

What started as an idea to blow away the Christmas cobwebs has turned into an opportunity to raise some funds for a worthwhile cause.

The walk will be in memory of Paul Bristow, an outstanding servant of Wiveliscombe as player, coach, supporter and committee man.

He sadly died earlier this year and proceeds of the walk will go to his family.

Robert Burston who coached both clubs will be joining the walkers.

They intend to take a rugby ball with them and lay down the challenge that it is returned – on foot – next year.

The second XV game is being played at Plain Pond at 11am while the 1st XV fixture will be at Wiveliscombe recreation ground at 2.30pm.

Last year a large festive crowd was treated to an excellent first team match in very poor conditions.

Wellington won 27-0 but both teams produced performances they could be proud of.
