CULLOMPTON'S game at St Austell tomorrow in Tribute South West 1 West is set to go ahead after an outbreak of mumps at the club.

Last Saturday’s home fixture against North Petherton was called off at the last minute on the advice of Exeter Chiefs’ doctor Adrian Harris, after two team members went down with mumps that morning.

But the club has been told by a local GP and the Health Protection Agency that it should be safe to play this week providing no further cases emerge.

Club chairman Phil Shere said: “It is annoying to lose games but the club will always put players’ health first, as we did last weekend.

“That said, the incidence of mumps is not confined to rugby circles and we do not want an over the top reaction by cancelling everything, especially as now the HPA has given us the go-ahead, the RFU will expect us to honour the fixtures and has rescheduled the lost game for Easter Saturday, April 19.”

Keeping the ball from St Austell’s backs will be the key to tomorrow’s encounter and Cully hopes are boosted in the forward department by the introduction of prop Martin Keywood and No8 Sam Harris.

Cullompton 2nds are due to entertain Devonport (2.30pm) while the thirds are away to Torrington (2.30pm).
