MINEHEAD hope to travel to Portishead Town reserves today to play their Somerset Senior Cup semi-final which was postponed last weekend.

The Senior Cup is a trophy the Blues have yet to win in their 124 year history, though they did reach the final in 1902, 1912 and 1925.

The winners of Saturday’s tie will play Wells City reserves, who beat Burnham in the other semi-final last Saturday. However it is not just Saturday’s cup semi-final that Minehead supporters have to look forward to in the next 14 days, as it is just one of four huge matches the outcome of which will largely define whether the Blues’ season stays on track.

Next Tuesday, March 11, sees the re-arrangement of the West Somerset derby which was postponed on Boxing Day.

The Blues’ No1 rivals, Watchet Town, will be Minehead’s opponents at the Recreation Ground for a 7.45pm kick off.

The Red and Blacks currently lie in fifth position, two points above Minehead with a game in hand.

If previous meetings are anything to go by, a large crowd will be expected at Irnham Road, with derby matches often attracting around 500 spectators whether at Minehead or at Watchet’s Memorial Ground home. Hot on the heels of the cup semi-final and the derby Minehead have two more hugely important home games.

Berrow provide tough opposition on Saturday, March 15, and are followed by the visit of Minehead’s nemesis in recent seasons, Nailsea United.

Nailsea appear favourites to take the title again this season which would make it their third title in as many seasons.

The Blues will be doing all they can to repeat last season’s 5-2 victory in the corresponding fixture last April, which would keep them on the edge of the title race themselves.
