FOOTBALL: Taunton Town chase Fleet double

Somerset County Gazette: FOOTBALL: Taunton Town chase Fleet double FOOTBALL: Taunton Town chase Fleet double

TAUNTON Town go in search of their second Calor League double in the space of a fortnight when they make the journey to lowly Fleet Town today (3pm).

The Peacocks were comfortable 3-0 home winners over the Hampshire club during November and will hope to repeat the dose this weekend against the division’s bottom side.

However Town cannot afford to take Fleet lightly despite their predicament as they are unbeaten in their last three games including a notable victory at Paulton Rovers.

Midfielder Andy Robertson and player/coach Nathan Rudge have both left the club in search of regular first team football.

However the Peacocks welcome back Rob Norrish and Ben Mammola who both missed last night’s (Wednesday) game at Swindon Supermarine through work commitments, while Lewis Tasker could also return following his hamstring injury should he failed to have been fit for the Swindon trip.

Town manager Leigh Robinson said: “I’m expecting a tricky afternoon at Fleet.

“I’ve heard on the grapevine that it’s a really poor pitch so we may need to adapt our game a touch as I imagine passing football will be at a premium.”

The Peacocks return to the Viridor Stadium next Tuesday for a rearranged Calor League fixture with Evesham United, kick-off 7.45pm.

Taunton Under 18s are hoping to get their first game played since December 9 this evening when they visit Ashton and Backwell in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League (7.30pm).
