FORMER Taunton School student Tom Woolstencroft is forging ahead with an international rugby career.

Tom, 19, whose brothers Ben, Daniel and Teddy are all current TS students, is a member of the England Under-20s rugby squad in this year’s Six Nations.

Tom, who comes from Broomfield, was a replacement last Friday as England thumped their Welsh counterparts 67-7 in Newcastle.

Headmaster Dr John Newton, said: “Tom started his senior school life at Taunton School and even though he left us at 16, we have been delighted to see his progress to this level.

“He deserves huge credit for his commitment to his rugby, which was evident even at a young age. We wish him well as he seeks to take his amazing career forward.”

A member of Bath Academy, Tom signed a loan deal with Coventry in January this year but his first game for the club was delayed until after the Six Nations.

This is yet another sporting success for Taunton School, coming hard on the heels of last year’s cricket captain, Jodie Dibble, being selected for the England Women’s squad for the ICC Women’s World Twenty20, which gets under way in Bangladesh on March 23.

The school has just launched a Sporting Excellence Programme aimed at developing the region’s most talented youngsters.
