THIRD-placed Tiverton Town made hard work of defeating bottom of the table Guildford City 2-0 in the Calor Southern league yesterday.

The kick-off was delayed as some City players were stuck in traffic.

Indeed City played the first 22 minutes with only ten men before an extra man arrived, then had no substitutes for the entire game.

As much as Tivvy huffed and puffed they didn’t really create an opening, efforts from Matt Wright, James Richards and Dan Smith failing to trouble Antony Hall in the City goal.

The one moment of class saw the only goal of the half, a sharp turn and shot by Max Kowal beating Hall at his right hand post.

The second half saw City come into the game more. Tivvy keeper Mike Searle was at his brilliant best to stop Joe Thoroughgood and Joel Hughes’ point blank efforts.

At the other end Wright should have broken his goal drought but Hall saved with his feet.

The killer goal came in the final minute as Wright poked the ball through for sub Michael Nardiello to nudge the ball past Hall, his eighth goal in his last seven appearances.

MOM: Chris Long (Tiverton).
