THE T20 match between a Somerset 'Local XI' and a Somerset 'World XI', due to be played at Weston-Super-Mare today, has been cancelled because of a wet pitch.
Heavy rain during the night resulted in a waterlogged outfield and the strong winds blew the covers over which also caused the wicket to become wet.
Discussions took place early this morning but an inspection deemed that no play would be possible.
Chief Executive Guy Lavender said: “Obviously we are extremely disappointed that we have had to cancel this fixture. A lot of work had gone in to staging this event and a lot of people have purchased tickets.
"These tickets will of course be refunded and we will be contacting supporters in due course to arrange this. We still remain committed to bringing cricket to Weston-super-Mare in the future.”
