Toolstation League Division 1: Wellington 4, Elmore 1.

STRIKER Shaun Anthony bagged a hat-trick as Wellington extended their unbeaten run to a dozen games - and moved up into third place in the last Saturday.

Anthony's treble made him the second player to perform the feat in four days after leading scorer Nick Woon - suspended against Elmore - also hit three in the midweek win over Minehead.

But Wellington's latest victory in a remarkable run was tainted by a serious injury to talented young defender Tim Legg, whose jaw was broken in two places in an accidental goalmouth collision.

Both sides struggled to contend with a fierce cross-pitch wind early on before Wellington - whose line-up included new signing Karl Madge - went ahead after 19 minutes as Anthony rose unchallenged at the near post to head home a Simon Ingram corner.

And, as they got into their stride, a flowing move ended with Craig Herrod being brought down in the box after 34 minutes and Anthony stepped up to coolly covert the resulting penalty.

Almost immediately, Elmore had their own appeals for a penalty turned down when Richard Blake crashed to the ground as he blasted over while, at the other end, Ingram almost made it three as his inswinging corner was headed out from under the bar.

Wellington made a sluggish start to the second half and Elmore pulled a goal back five minutes after the re-start as substitute Brett Worbey scored with a looping header.

Although the Tiverton outfit refused to lie down, it was always the home side who looked more likely to add to their tally.

They restored their two-goal advantage midway through the half as substitute Greg Blenkinsop released Legg and his pinpoint cross found Anthony to complete his hat-trick.

Despite the injury to Legg, which is expected to end his season, Wellington stuck to their task and went close three times in the dying minutes before Craig Mawford scored a cracking fourth in stoppage time.
