TIVERTON Weightlifting Club’s sole entry for this year's South-West British Drug Free Powerlifting Association’s Push/Pull was 15-year-old Jevan Cockbain who enjoyed a tremendous day’s lifting.
Jevan secured first place in his class and also broke two South-West records.
Taking part in the Junior 14-15 (T1) class and 75kg bodyweight category, the first discipline he had to tackle was the Bench Press (Push).
On his third attempt Jevan recorded a new South-West ‘single lift’ record of 80.0kgs, to the delight of the spectators.
The Deadlift (Pull) soon followed and the vociferous audience saw him finish with 180.0kgs and another South-West single lift record.
Mark Rattenberry, Tiverton’s senior coach, said: “Jevan wasn’t quite at his very best today, but he still made short work of meeting the targets set for him. “He will be entered for a regional full powerlifting competition in five weeks time, when more regular training should see further improvement from him.”
