THE finals of the three Somerset Cricket Board Knockout competitions will be taking place at the County Ground on Sunday with the first match is due to get underway at 10am.

First up is the Minor Cup Final where Long Sutton CC face Bear Flat CC from Bath. Long Sutton reached the final by beating higher league opposition, Barrington CC and North Newton CC, thanks to superb individual performances from Steve Long.

Long Sutton went on to defeat Fitzhead CC in their semi-final. Ed Sparrow starring with both bat and ball, including a hat trick amongst his four wicket haul to guide them to finals day.

Bear Flat CC, last year’s beaten semi-finalists overcame Cranmore CC and Midsomer Norton CC 2s in the early rounds before visiting Lympsham CC in the semi, who they beat thanks to a fantastic all round fielding and bowling display.

In the Major Cup (starting at 1.15pm), WEPL Premier One side, Weston Super Mare CC face Ilminster CC who next year will step up to the top tier in the region after being promoted from Prem Two.

Weston saw off the challenge of Keynsham in their semi-final, defending just 85 and won by just one run.

Ilminster reached the final with a comprehensive victory over the Baker Cup holders, Taunton Deane CC. In the previous round Sam Spurway’s men ensured they had local bragging rights as the defeated Chard CC in the quarter finals.

The last finals of the day is the Intermediate Cup (starting at 4.15pm) that will be contested by Staplegrove CC and Bridgwater CC Second XI.

Staplegrove stopped the possibility of an all Bridgwater final by beating Bridgwater A in the semi-final. Staplegrove defeated three other Somerset Cricket League sides en route to finals day, Ilton CC, Ashbrittle CC and North Perrott CC.

Bridgwater beat Street CC, Temple Cloud CC and Timsbury CC on their journey to their Semi-Final with Stuart Butt producing match winning performances with both bat and ball before they saw off the defending champions Lansdown CC in the semis.

Entry is free to The County Ground to watch the finals and the County Room Bar and food outlets will be open all day serving drinks and refreshments.
