GALMINGTON side Hovelands travelled to Sherborne to play Yeovil’s 2nd team, Newton, in the Somerset League Premier Division and edged a thrilling game 38-35.

After Galmington took an early three-goal lead the experienced Newton team were quick to reply.

And with defences on top, the first quarter finished with Hovelands holding a slender 8-7 advantage.

Hovelands again opened a lead in the second period only for Newton to repeatedly close the gap before Hovelands finished the quarter on a high note to lead 20-16.

Jaz Wilson was in excellent form for Hovelands dominating the centre court but they were still unable to build a match-winning lead as an evenly contested third period ended with the visitors still four goals in front, 29-25, and the match was still very much in the balance.

Newton scored the first four goals of the final quarter to level the score and it would have been easy for the young Hovelands team, who were missing their most experienced players, to wilt under the pressure.

However, the whole team responded brilliantly playing excellent netball to retake the lead and they held on for a well-deserved win.

Queensway made a strong start against Division Two opponents Venus of Bridgwater to open up an 11-5 first quarter lead.

Venus made changes but, with wing defence Amy Evens in good form, Queensway were still 18-15 ahead at half-time.

Unfortunately Venus took control in the second half and turned the match around to win 33-28.

In Division Three Newbarn recorded an excellent win over Aldon in Yeovil despite starting the match with only six players after a car breakdown.

Goal attack Zoe Newman continued her impressive early season form and, with Emily Leeming strong in defence, Newbarn won 32-27.

Comeytrowe, for whom Freya Deeley, Lucy Hemmings and Natasha Snow all had fine games, were desperately unlucky to go down 32-31 to Robins of Bruton.
