GEMMA Hallett, a 24-year-old from Wellington, took the victory in the Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round hosted by Chard Equestrian in Crewkerne.

Hallett was riding her own 13-year-old grey gelding Sparkling Indulgence.

Each of the 16 starters were hoping to claim on one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool in November.

The jump off in this second round was contested by 13 combinations and 11 double clears were eventually produced.

With 11 double clears already in bag, the rest of the field were left competing for that last qualification place.

Gemma and Sparkling Indulgence, delivered the fastest double clear of the class to secure the top spot.

The combination was drawn sixth to go in the jump off and after crossing the finish line in 33.62 seconds, they took victory with just 0.07 seconds in hand over second place.

Finishing in second was 42-year-old Jane Gregory from Crewkerne, Somerset on her own 16-year-old chestnut gelding Redlight. They produced their two immaculate rounds in 33.69 seconds.

Third place was taken by 53-year-old Jancey Wembridge from Taunton, Somerset and she was on her own 19-year-old bay mare Who’s Dilemma. This combination took their place in the top three after delivering their double clear in 34.63 seconds.

A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Championship Final.
