GALMINGTON continued their superb form as they made it five Regional League Division One wins in a row with a comprehensive win over improving Crossbow in Bristol on Sunday.

Galmington were on top from the start, not allowing the home side to settle as they built a 13-7 first quarter lead.

They continued to dominate all areas of the court and, with Sam Newton’s movement and shooting at goal attack causing Crossbow endless problems, they stretched their lead to 28-13 at half-time.

Crossbow were looking to get back into the match in the third quarter but Galmington were in no mood to relinquish their control and, despite a forced change due to an injury, they extended their advantage to 43-20 by continuing to play superb netball and went on to complete an outstanding victory by 59 goals to 31.

In Division Two Trident faced a tough test against Lawn of Swindon and found themselves narrowly 11-10 behind after a closely contested initial period.

The score was level halfway through the second quarter before Trident opened up a 25-20 lead with Polly Land and Lucy Low combining excellently in attack to take full advantage of their possession.

Lawn put pressure on Trident after half-time but resolute defending from Sharon Chester and Jo James restricted the visiting attack as Trident increased their lead to 34-27 going into the final period.

They kept their shape and discipline through to the final whistle to win an exciting match 43-36.

Galmington Under-16s faced Yeovil in their second regional U-16 match and led by just a single goal after the first quarter.

Strong defending, especially from Jaz Chester, who again showed tremendous maturity beyond her years, saw Galmington pull away for a 20-13 half-time lead.

Although Yeovil reduced the deficit to six goals in the third quarter, excellent shooting from Zoe Newman resulted in Galmington dominating the last period for a fine 46-31 victory.

For the second week running Hovelands travelled to play Sapphires in the Premier Division of the Somerset League, having knocked them out of the cup last week, and again they came away victorious.

Hovelands took charge from the outset to build a 17-10 first quarter lead which they extended to 33-18 at half-time.

With goalkeeper Sophie Hooley keeping a close check on Sapphires’ accurate shooters, Hovelands continued to dominate and were comfortable 69-38 winners.

Division One leaders Claremont made a slow start against bottom-of-the-table Walton Blacks and were 5-1 down before they took complete control of the match.

They were 18-8 up by the end of the first quarter and with Caitlin Evans unstoppable at goal attack went on to record a resounding 77-18 win.

Parkfield were up against Harlequins, who are Claremont’s closest rivals for promotion, and they came close to doing their fellow club members a favour as they were 17-15 ahead at half-time with Kate Northcott consistently breaking up the Harlequins attacking moves.

However, Harlequins had the better of the second half to win a close match 33-29 but Parkfield can take much from a very impressive team performance.

In Division Two Queensway found Minstrels too strong and, despite the excellent shooting of Heather Manning, went down to a 52-35 defeat.

Newbarn continued their good Division Two form and were comfortable 35-20 victors overs Jesters with Hannah Lenthall having another fine match.
