CLUB president Bob Codd is Wellington Indoor Bowling Club's new men’s singles champion.

In the final, he came up against the talented Nick Channon who has worked tirelessly to improve his game by practising whenever he has a moment.

But all his hard work and effort came to nothing against the carefully crafted and consistent play of Codd.

Codd started well, picking up five shots in the first four ends but Channon fought back and, by the ninth, he was only 6-5 down.

Things began to look good for Channon but Codd moved into overdrive and, by the 17th end, he led 20-5, needing only one more shot to take the crown.

Channon had tried everything he could think of but, because he couldn’t win an end for such a long time, he was unable to change the length of the jack.

On the 18th end, Channon picked up two shots which gave him the chance to put up a very short jack in the hope of catching out the veteran.

But Codd was having none of that and put two of his woods right on target to win the end, the match and the competition 21-7.
