TUESDAY was a very busy day for the Ladies at Taunton & Pickeridge, starting with a nine hole team Stableford with three out of four scores to count. Romping across the finishing line with a hugely impressive tally of 80 points were Jane Ledsham, Mary-Jo Shepherd, Heather Crump and Chris Collins. The team closest to them posted a very creditable 72 points, amassed by Susan Gawne-Cain, Anne Watson, Pat Campbell and Margaret Blackaller.

Following the golf the annual prizegiving took place and judging by the silverware on display and the number of prizewinners, there was plenty to go around.

The annual meeting followed at the end of which 2014 captain Jill Paul (pictured right) handed over the captaincy of the Ladies’ Section to Carolyn Stait. Jill, known as the Pocket Rocket, has enjoyed a very successful year both on and off the course giving Carolyn a tall order to follow – but looking at the difference in their height, the ladies are hopeful that she will rise to the challenge. Saturday saw a great turn out for the Men’s Stableford that was played on a full course.

Division One winner was Jon West with 42 points, who enjoyed a two point lead over Pete Scarratt, with Alistair Johnston third with 39.

Mark Bushen headed the second flight with 37 points, one ahead of Paul Hewton who edged in front of Keith Marlborough on countback after both carded 36 points.

The third division saw Glenn Brooks take the honours with 34 points, Lee Tomkins was second with 33 while Dean Wildman was third with 31.

AT OAKE Manor the first limbering up to matters more serious took place on Tuesday for the Ladies when they stepped out for the Captain versus Vice-Captain 4BBB match play.

The end result was nail bitingly close, with the Captain’s team winning by a smidgeon (the Vice-Captain having played the Captain’s ball by mistake on the 10th and so having to forfeit the hole!) The results of the men’s Stableford on Saturday, Division one were: 1 Ricky Selway 41, 2 G Mangeolles 40, 3 James Kelly 39 and 4 Matthew Bulbeck 38. Division two: 1 D Matthews 41, 2 Terry Adams 39, 3 Phillip Troake 38 after count back to Nick Fenn also 38 and 4 Mark Wooliscroft 36. On Sunday the results of the men’s Stableford division one were: 1 S Greaves 39, 2 Ian Nott 37 after count back to Chris Flack also 37, next Michael Bright 36 and Rob Larcombe 34. Division two results: 1 Garry Jackson 40, 2 R Crouch also 40, after count back, then M Andrews 38, Daniel White 35 and tied at 34 both Neil Hallett and Hal White.
