TAUNTON Under-13 Trojans upset the form book against Wells Under-13s with a 41-26 success.

In a very promising start the Trojans had all the possession for the first ten minutes of the game and ran in an early try.

But Trojans looked lethargic in defence when not in possession and Wells soon took the lead running in a couple of easy tries.

After 20 minutes the Trojans were still looking poor in defence but outstanding in possession.

After a harsh team talk the defence improved dramatically at the breakdown the forwards started showing their power and the attack went from strength to strength.

Finlay McGough went over for well deserved try and birthday boy Dan Irons ran in six plus three conversions.

n THERE was an early start for a keen Taunton Under-11 Lions squad who made there way to the ever-popular Winscombe Festival.

Depite being depleted in numbers, the nine boys who made it on the day shone as an example to the game.

They played with great skill and respect for their opposition, coming out unbeaten all day.

Match one against Winscombe was a great battle with neither side conceding any ground.

The Winscombe Forwards were very swift and strong at the breakdown with Taunton moving the ball faster through hands to the wings and Toby Pike ran in two great tries to leave the final score 10-10.

Game Two, against Old Bristolians, was a different matter.

The Taunton squad dominated in every way, running fast efficient rugby with the final score Taunton 35-5.

The last game of the day came against St Bernadettes Old Boys, a team that Taunton had never played before.

Saints were on fire at the start, running in three tries in the first half to Taunton’s one.

Mat Baker led his team out for the second half refusing to allow the boys heads to drop.

They held strong and kept shape, managing to pull back two scores to draw level.

As the referee called ‘last play’ they threw everything at the Saints defence and Alex Boswell crashed over the line to win the match.

Taunton were victorious and were awarded the ‘Best Backs’ award.

The Taunton coaches nominated Mat Baker as their player of the tournament though huge credit went to every player.

Tries were scored by Toby Pike (5), Harry Jackson (4), Brooklyn Addicott, Barney Cooper (2), Alex Boswell, Squad Tom Conway, Mat Baker, Josh Guest and Jake Highfield.

n Taunton Under-16 Rebels fought a well-earned draw away at Bridgwater in what was officially the last time the sides will meet as youth players.

The Rebels only took a squad of 18 and nine out of the starting 15 played out of position due to unavailability through injury and other rugby commitments.

This was always going to be a tough match for the Rebels who were definitely up for the fight.

The Rebels opened up the scoring with a try in five minutes which went unconverted.

It took Bridgwater another seven minutes to breech the Rebels’ defences with another try.

Rebels’ reply was a another try which was unconverted, then Bridgwater came back to score twice more before the break to leave the half time score 19 -10 in Bridgwater’s favour.

In the second period Rebels piled on the pressure but a few silly penalties followed giving Bridgwater the edge to go 24 - 10 in the lead.

With discipline restored, the Rebels hit back with a try which was converted.

The Rebels now knew that there was still time and with a lot of effort they could claw the deficit back.

In a thrilling last ten minutes the Rebels piled on the pressure and scoring a try that was converted to make the score line even.

And with only three minutes to go both battled it out to the whistle for a final score of 24-24.
