BISHOPS Lydeard set up a semi-final clash with Watchet on April 4 with a 2-1 victory at home to Winscombe in the Somerset Senior Cup.

Lydeard started in a controlled fashion, keeping good possession across the back four and using full-backs Mark Cornish and Jack Adams productively.

After ten minutes the ball was worked wide out to the left and with good delivery Mark Clunie arrived to head home a text book move.

Things looked good for Lydeard in front of a crowd of 50 including 20 ex-players who had turned up to support the Bishops.

After the goal Lydeard stepped off the pace and allowed the action to become scrappy.

Winscombe clawed their way back into the game with a goal mid-way through the second half and there followed a nervous time for the Bishops as Winscombe hit the crossbar.

But Lydeard eventually secured their semi-final place ten minutes from time after veteran Brett Andrews whipped in a free kick that took a slight deflection off Joe Chamberlain’s shoulder.
