JOSH Moody, who is working on a student teacher placement at Castle School, won the Longrun Meadow parkrun on Saturday in a time of 17m 30s.

Second in the field of 273 was Eric Evans of Taunton AC in 17m 50s.

Hydro Harrier Chris Jones smashed his personal best by 26 seconds, completing the course in 19m 39s. He finished in 13th and was first in his age category (VM35-39).

Clubmate Luke Elliott came fifth from 128 at the Plymvalley event in 20m 50s.

First woman home at Longrun was Hannah Taunton of Taunton AC – for the 37th time – in 19m 07s.

Clubmate Lyndsey Hollands was second in a best of 21m 44s and Victoria Bannister third in 21m 59s.

The run attracted visitors from Derby, Plymouth, Cheltenham, Sheffield, Axe Valley Runners, Bude and Dursley. Jan Burton won the month’s Sweatshop prize of a voucher for a pair of running shoes. Burton has only missed one parkrun since it started in October 2013. She has run 23 times and when she hasn’t been running she has volunteered every week except once, when she was on holiday.

n Hydro Harriers Tom Mellor and Luke Elliot put in excellent performances in the gruelling Grizzly 20m race. Mellor finished in 2hr 25m 47s, placing him 35th from a field of 1,422 and one minute faster than his finishing time last year. Elliott came 63rd in 2hr 54m 7s.

Clubmate Rowland Lyons competed Stateside omn Saturday in Ashland, Oregon, taking on the six mile ‘Tar n’ Trail’ multi-terrain race which included several hill stretches.

His unofficial time was 1hr 6m 23s.

n The Peacock Firm were well represented at Longrun meadow parkrun with eight runners present.

Sam White came fourth in a time of 18m 09s Other runners were Craig White-more, 14th with another PB in 19m 54s, Finlay Price 18th in 20m 13s, Andy White 21st in 20m 43s, Harry Waugh 26th in 21m 08s, Barry Holder 48th in 22m 33s, Michael Styles 88th in 24m 46s and Rachel Curry 190th in 31m 40s.

Further afield at the Bournemouth parkrun Daniel West came 45th in 21m 51s and Lucy White 145th in 26m 28s.

On Sunday four Peacock Firm members ran the Great Western 10k held in Sherborne.

Sam White came in fourth overall while winning his age group. Andy White came in 36th, Dan West 47th and Lucy White 69th.

n Taunton Running Club, affectionately known as the All Blacks, were out in force over the weekend with ten personal bests in the Longrun Meadow ParkRun, the Bideford Half Marathon and the Salisbury 10 Miler.

The club has groups for a wide range of running abilities and the club already has a number EA qualified running instructors.

The long term aim is to have qualified leaders and deputies in all groups.

n TAUNTON Athletics Club’s seniors held their first 5k track time trial of the season with two runners recording personal bests.
