TAUNTON Town are aiming to conclude their season with some silverware when they play Yeovil Town in the final of the Somerset Premier Cup at the Viridor Stadium this evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

As holders of the trophy, the Peacocks will be eager to emulate their success in last year’s competition when they beat Frome Town in the final, and will have the added incentive of playing at their own ground.

The final is traditionally staged at a neutral venue but on this occasion as both sides were happy to host the game a coin toss at Somerset FA headquarters went Taunton’s way and gave them home advantage. Town have again reserved some of their better performances this season for the Somerset Premier Cup, beginning with a 5-1 victory at Wincanton Town in late September which was followed by an equally comfortable 4-0 win at Keynsham Town six weeks later.

Southern Premier outfit Frome Town were then beaten 3-1 at the Viridor Stadium in the quarter finals which was followed by a dramatic 4-2 win at Paulton Rovers in the semi-finals, steering the Peacocks to a final against a Yeovil side who have experienced a torrid campaign, ending in relegation from League One after finishing nine points adrift at the bottom.

However, the Glovers will be favourites to lift the trophy, with 11 of the players in their squad for the league fixture at MK Dons last weekend being involved in the semi-final tie at Bridgwater.

Town manager Leigh Robinson said: “It’s a game that we’re really looking forward to.

"To put ourselves up against professional players on our own patch in a cup final is a really exciting way to end the season whatever the result.”

Taunton will be missing Owen Irish who begins a four-match suspension after being sent off against Yate recently while injuries rule out Lamar Powell and make Rodney Marsh very doubtful.

Aaron Ward-Baptiste and Josh Wadham though are both available after completing their three game bans.

Admission for the game is £8 adults, £5 concessions, £2 under 16’s and under 12’s free.

On Saturday evening the club are holding a free informal Presentation Evening in the bar when awards for the first team, under 18’s and club will be given out.

All supporters and parents are welcome.
