STAPLEGROVE pipped local rivals Wyvern 3-2 in an exciting derby in Division One of the Silver Street Volkswagen Taunton and District Saturday League on Tuesday evening.

Darren Rice and Kirk Reece put the Grove two goals ahead but Reza Ariannejad pulled one back just before half time.

Wyvern flew out the blocks in the second half and got back level through Gareth Conway. The game could have gone either way but Simon Morton poached the winner for Staplegrove.

In Division Two, Lee Goss scored both the goals for Marketeers who beat Sydenham Rangers 2-0. They have closed to one point behind second placed Wellworthy Saints.

In Division Three, White Hart Rangers were 6-0 ahead after only nine minutes against Wyvern Reserves and went on to win 7-0. Matt Buswell was the leading marksman with four goals, Adam Crossman, Dan Shelley and Simon Livy added the other three.

On Saturday, Porlock moved a step closer the Division One title with a 9-1 thrashing at home to Taverners.

Skipper Dave Sowden led the way with four goals, Robert Southby and Lee Todd scored two each with Ross Baker netting the other.

The win allowed Porlock to leapfrog Bridgwater Sports who crashed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Middlezoy Rovers. Porlock are two points ahead of Sports and also have a game in hand.

Kenzie Farnham scored the only goal of the game for Middlezoy.

Staplegrove also had their scoring boots on - they defeated Norton Fitzwarren 7-1.

Ian Larcombe scored a hat trick with Rice, Joe Holmes, Matty Pounde and Morton also on target.

It's very tight at the bottom of the table with three teams level on 13 points - Sampford Blues look doomed to relegation on four.

Alcombe Rovers were the only one to gain three points, beating Bishops Lydeard 4-1 thanks to a pair from Matt Lawrence and one each from James Browning and Luke Freeman.

Ian Bishop scored a hat-trick for Wyvern who beat Cossington 4-2. Mark Wooliscroft added the other and it was the best of the game scored from 35 yards. James Hamilton and Jason Alexander scored for Cossington.

Locomotives kept Sampford Blues firmly planted to the bottom of the table with a 2-1 victory goals from Damon Palfrey and Andy Jubb.

Division Two leaders Staplegrove Reserves made it a double for the club over Norton as they defeated their counterparts 9-1.

Player-manager Martin Adams and leading scorer Darren Cornwall both helped themselves to hat-tricks, Reece scored two and Nick Crowford came off the bench to add one. Liam Thomas scored the consolation goals for Norton.

Wellworthy Saints stay in touch with the leaders with a 2-0 win over Westonzoyland.

Intermediate Cup finalists Dulverton Town went down 4-2 at home to local rivals Minehead Reserves. Rob Oram and Martin Edworthy scored for the home side.

Marketeers, in third place, dropped two vital home points in a 1-1 draw with Civil Service.

Spaxton closed in on Marketeers with a 4-3 win over Hamilton. Nigel Davey scored from the penalty spot with Sam Chillingworth, Mike Richards and Barry Dobson all scoring one each.

Wellington 3rds had a 3-1 home win over bottom side Sydenham Rangers with Paul Desborough scoring two and Dan Woodgate one.

With Division Three leaders Nether Stowey not playing, Milverton wasted the chance of closing the gap to three points as they were held to goalless draw at Highbridge Reserves.

Alcombe Rovers Reserves made it two wins for the club on the day by beating Wyvern Reserves 4-3. Alex Pope, and Chris Newbold scored one each and Liam Hampsey scored two.

Dan Godding scored the only goal of the match for Redgate in their 1-0 win over Watchet Town Reserves.

In Division Four, leaders Hemyock lost their unbeaten league record after 20 matches, as Williton secured a 2-1 win. Matt Lovell and Nick Richards scored for Williton with Darren Salter replying for Hemyock.

Hamilton Reserves and Porlock Reserves played out a 0-0 draw, while Norton Dragons had a good 5-1 away at Old Inn All Stars with Mark Fisher and Nick Northey scoring two each. Stars managed to help them with a 25-yard own goal. Gavin Walsh scored for Stars at the right end.

Swallowfield picked up their third victory of the season with a 3-1 home win over Wyvern Foxes - Darren Cann (2), Simon Andrews, with a 25-yarder and Dan Prettyjon got the goals.
