DEFENDING champions Taunton Deane will be hoping to secure the first of an illustrious double when they take on Ilminster in the Baker Cup final at the County Ground tonight (Tuesday).

Deane are on course for a Baker Cup and Terry Mockridge Memorial Shield double for the second time in ten years.

The WEPL Premier One side booked their place in the final with a 72-run victory over Chard, while their opponents, Ilminster, overcame Bridgwater by 35 runs.

Both sides have experienced difficult starts to the season in the WEPL’s top division and occupy the bottom two spots, but victory tonight could kick start their seasons.

Taunton Deane’s key man this evening is Australian star, John Rogers, who has already amassed 374 league runs this season, including three 50s and one century.

For Ilminster, batsmen Louis Kraucamp and Sam Spurway hold the key – the former topped the run scoring charts in Premier Two last season with a remarkable 939 runs.

The action gets under way at 6pm.
