LOCAL boy Storm Munday has won the boys Tri Star 1 category in the South West junior triathlon series.

The series consists of five events held at different locations in the south west throughout the season, where young triathletes from the whole south west region come together to compete.

This year the races were held in Bath, Burnham-on-Sea, Gloucester, Oxfordshire, and Bristol.

Storm. who trains and races with Burnham Triathlon Academy and Taunton Deane Swimming Club, had a consistent season finishing in the top two in all five races.

Even with a bike malfunction in Oxfordshire he managed to finish a strong second, less than 14 seconds off first place.

Storm said: "I was really disappointed in my race in Oxfordshire, but these things happen with triathlon."

This disappointment meant Storm went into the last race in Bristol needing a win.

Fortunately, everything went to plan and Storm produced his best run of the season to win by 15 seconds and take the title by 55 points.

It was a very competitive season and ultimately came down to a battle between Storm and Joshua Cumberland from Vale Tridents.

Storm’s dad Paul Munday said: "This has been the culmination of a great season for Storm both in Triathlon and swimming.

"He has worked extremely hard and learnt a lot. We are immensely proud of him."
