Nailsea United 0 Bishops Lydeard 3

BISHOPS Lydeard returned to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing win at Nailsea United.

Charlie Wilson scored twice for Lydeard and Calum Flaherty was also on target, to seal an eighth league win of the season.

The first 20 minutes saw the Bishops struggle at times, to come to terms with Nailsea’s robust approach and looked a little ring rusty having missed a game the previous Saturday.

But nerves were settled on 21 minutes when Charlie Wilson finished with aplomb from an acute angle, after a testing cross from captain Jack Adams.

This calmed the tentative Bishops and for the rest of the half, they dominated proceedings with Charlie Wilson bullying his marker with his pace.

Joe Chamberlain also had the better of Nailsea’s back four and he was unlucky to have been judged offside having nodded home after a flowing move - the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

The second-half saw Lydeard continue to look the better side - man of the match Ashley Philips dictated play from midfield and looked a class act, but as usual, Lydeard could not get away from their opponents and at times gave them a chance to get back on terms with poor decision making.

But with 20 minutes to go, a short corner was played to Jack Adams and another cross from him found the dependable Calum Flaherty in the six yard area, who headed strongly home to put the game beyond doubt.

Then on 80 minutes a raking ball from Philips released Charlie Wilson, who again tormented his marker and then the keeper, to roll the ball into an empty net. 3-0 and three deserved three points.
