THE Gallery tightened their grip at the top of the Division 1 table in the Taunton And District Saturday Football League, after a 4-1 victory at home to Bishops Lydeard Reserves, writes Matt Whelan.

The win moved them two points clear of second placed Locomotives, who did well to secure a 3-3 draw at Alcombe Rovers.

It was 1-1 after ten minutes but then Locomotives were reduced to ten men, an injury and no substitutes meant a tough task was ahead for them.

Alcombe missed the opportunity to take all three points late on, as Martin Lang saved a penalty.

Senna Clapp hit the net twice for Locos as Tom Edwards grabbed the other. Andrew Land, Lee Todd and Ryan Wilkins all struck for Alcombe.

In Division 2, Sydenham Rangers remain early leaders, after they made it five wins from five with a slender 3-2 win at Westonzoyland.

Cam Wilkinson put in an excellent shift, claiming a hat-trick for Sydenham. James Millard and Charlie Kirk goals were not enough to prevent defeat for Zoyland.

Tone Youth are the only other team in the division with a 100% record, putting in a great performance as they defeated Bridgwater Sports Reserves 5-0.

Steve Reed gave Tones an early lead, Gary Mckiernan then doubled the advantage with a fine 25-yard strike.

It was 3-0 before half time when Gary Shier took on two defenders and smashed a low effort into the bottom corner.

Shier put Tones further ahead after the break with a mazy run and finish, as Steve Reed who started the scoring then finished the scoring, heading home to make it 5-0.

Watchet Town Reserves moved into mid-table, edging out bottom side Stogursey 1-0. Josh Aspey converted the only goal of the game.

Ash Rangers continue their flying start to the season in Division 3, after downing Minehead Reserves 5-0 away from home.

Ali Poole, Lewis Ahmet, Lewis Scutt, Jack Wheeler and Callum Hardy all with a goal each to see Ash close the gap on the top two to within a point.

Ash now have six wins from six and have a game in hand on their rivals.

In the other game, North Petherton eased to a 6-2 victory over winless Galmington Dragons.

There were six different scorers for Pethy - James Smith, Dan Wilkes, Tom Bovey, Ollie Pascoe, Jake Woodrow and an own goal.

Matt and Chris Tucker goals gave slim consolation for Dragons.

In Division 4, Bridgwater Grasshoppers produced the result of the day as they thumped leaders Bridgwater Wolves 11-0.

The game boasted two hat-tricks - one apiece from Dan Saunders and Jim Winchester - as Will Bartlett and Shane Thompson hit two each with Rob Adams rounding off the scoring.

Grasshoppers are up to second place, now trailing Wolves by only two points.

Boca Seniors maintained their superb start to the season in Division 5, winning 4-1 at Hamilton Foxes to secure a seventh win from seven outings and rightfully claim their place at the top of the standings.

Matt Francis, Luke Walsh, James Walpole and Ross Chatfield converted for Boca and Chris McKee penalty reduced the deficit for Foxes.

In the Seward Cup Second Round, Woolavington, of Division 3, hit opponents North Curry, of Division 5, for seven in a 7-3 victory.

Josh Corkett netted a hat-trick for Woolavington as Sam Godfrey and John Higgins notched two goals each.

Ashley Cook, and Peter and Robbie Watts gave the scoreline some respect for Curry.

Division 4 outfit Middlezoy Athletic produced a surprise result by defeating Division 3's Redgate 2-1.

Trailing 1-0 at the interval, second-half strikes from Luke Childs and Scott Fletcher goals ensured Middlezoy progressed, with Josh Weller on the scoresheet for home side Redgate.

Division 2 team Morganians ran out convincing 5-1 winners at home to Norton Fitzwarren of Division 3, in the opening round of the Rowbarton Charity Cup.

Andrew James topped a brilliant performance with a hat-trick as Adam Burchill and Ben Searle scored one each for Morganians.

Westonzoyland beat Division 2 counterparts Milverton Rangers 2-0, Paul Burrows and James Millard confirming Zoyland's advancement.

Exmoor Rangers managed their first win of the season as they won 5-1 at basement side Nether Stowey. Jimmy Baker scored a first half hat-trick as Robin Howe struck twice for Exmoor.

Two TDSFL sides were in action in the Third Round of the Somerset Junior Cup on Saturday and both sides prevailed, booking their places in the Quarter-Final line up.

Staplegrove Reserves ran riot in defeating Westfield Reserves 6-0, as Bridgwater Sports also kept a clean sheet with a fine 3-0 win at Saltford Reserves.
