Somerset Senior County Cup

Peasedown Athletic 0 Bishops Lydeard 4

BISHOPS Lydeard made it seven wins from their last eight games with a 4-0 triumph at Peasedown Athletic.

Mark Clunie, Joe Chamberlain, Ashley Phillips and Liam Hooper were on target for Lydeard, who climb one place to fourth.

Lydeard took time to acclimatise, but the early exchanges indicated that a win was on the cards - and when on twenty minutes Mark Clunie struck a stunning volley from 20 yards, this appeared to confirm the thoughts of the dug out.

But Peasedown had other ideas and for the rest of the half they looked the stronger, more physical team with two strikers that would grace any team, testing Lydeard's back four - but the reliable George Painter, Mark Cornish, Jack Adams and Calum Flaherty just about nullified the numerous counter attacks.

The second-half couldn't have started better, as man of the match Charlie Wilson turned the Peasedown left-back inside out, got to the bye line and cut in to set up Joe Chamberlain to finish from close range, on 50 minutes.

This settled Lydeard's nerves and from then on there was only one side in it, and they played some excellent possession football, combined with some exciting attacking forays deep into the home team territory.

Wilson as mentioned continued to exploit the hapless left-back with ease and was the conduit for most of Lydeard's attack.

Ashley Phillips got stronger as the game progressed and it was during one of the numerous attacks that he waltzed through the home defence to finish with aplomb, to register his first goal for the club, on 70 minutes.

Now totally in control, the Bishops almost toyed with Peasedown and the frustrated home side were now taking the law into their own hands with some ugly off the ball shenanigans, but this played into the hands of Lydeard.

It was during this lapse in concentration that Liam Hooper capitalised on a defensive error, to almost walk the ball through the home defence to score easily from close range to make the final score a comprehensive 4-0.
